Beginning October 1, 2025, Washington State will expand its retail sales tax to cover several new categories of services, including information technology services, custom website development, investigation and security services (including armored car), temporary staffing, advertising, live presentations, and the sale or customization of software. These changes are part of Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5814, which broadens the definition of taxable retail services.
The Department of Revenue will continue to release detailed guidance in the months ahead. More details to follow.
